1) in what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge conventions of real life media products? highlight differences/similarities between your product and two other films you have analysed
Answer to Question 1: We focused on the dolly shot for our film, this convention was taken from the film 'panic room'. this worked out well for us we got the mysterious atmosphere from the shot that we wanted. we had short shots whilst the dolly shot was going to again give the mysterious style atmosphere. this convention is best compared to the film 'seven', where they had random shots of photo's, blood and comeone cutting their fingertips off.
2) how does your media product represent social groups?
Answer to Question 2: We didn't represent a particular social group in our film. but it could be said that the antagonist used to happy, and this change could have happened because of a traumatic experience.
3) what kind of media instituion might distribute your production? how have your ideas changed?
Answer to Question 3: I think 'New Line Cinema' would distribute our film because they are a small company. they distributed the film 'seven' which has the same conventions as our film. recently new line cinema merged with Warner brothers which is a major distributor. This is good as Warner Brothers would promote out film really well as they're a big time company. This is all because our film looks a lot more professional than we thought it'd look, we got this suggestion from our questionnaires feedback. to sum it up, we will have mainstream cinema's, good marketing strategy and high production values.
4) who would be the audience for your media product ? how did your target audience respond?
Answer to Question 4: The audience for our film would be people who enjoy thrillers and young people in general, from 12 year old's to 21 year old's. Our target audience from our feedback responded positively so we know we have achieved our targets in audience. Alternative audiences from our feedback also gave us good feedback. This is a good sign as it shows our film can be enjoyed by other types of audiences.
5) how did you attract adress your audience? refer to questionnaires.
Answer to Question 5: We attracted our audience by doing things like filming in a school and having believable props like clothes. this makes the whole situation easier to relate to for our audience. Our target audience we're happy with our film which again shows that we achieved that target. this means that we did attract our audience well.
6) what have you learned about technologies while doing your production?
Answer to Question 6: The main technologies we used in our production we're camera's ( the Canon 550 & the XM2 ) Blogger and final cut pro. i think blogger was the most useful and user friendly technology as it was easy to view my groups blogs and it was easy to upload and edit my posts. my posts are then reviewed by my teacher who gives me pointers on how to improve my work. that is why i think it was the most useful. The camera's we used we're very good cameras. they we're high quality and didnt take long to upload on the mac book pros. the only complaint i have with the cameras is the battery life and the memory capacity, these two problems caused us to break our schedule whilst filming. finally final cut pro was the most professional piece of technology we used but it was also the hardest to use. but we have trained to use it and get used to its control so we can do whatever like to the video. its high performance in quality makes up for its complexity. so once we we're familiar with the program, it was very very useful for our production.
7) looking back at your preliminary task, what do you feel you have learned in the progression from it to the full product? how did the preliminary task help you to realise a better quality in your main task?
Answer to Question 7: I learnt through our preliminary to our final production that it requires better planning for example schedules etc. the better quality in my final production was because i tried a wide range of shots in the preliminary like high angle shots, low angle shots, zoom, point of view and over shoulder. i also used a shot in the corner of the top a room to imitate a surviellance camera. this helped me in my final production as it helped me pick the shots that we're most effective to achieve our goal.

Success : We got most of the shots that we wanted in under an hour.
Obstacle : We had to find people who were willing to be filmed because the original actors were unavailable.

Success : We managed to re film the shot in one session.
At this point we had all the shots we needed with a wide variety of angles and shot types.
Obstacle : We had to re film one of the shots because it was not how we wanted it to be.

Success : We imported all of our clips into Final Cut Pro.
Obstacle : We couldn't import directly to the mac book so we imported it to the mac and then move it to a hard drive. We imported using iMovie.
after watching the finished version we decided we could film something of a much a higher standard.
We agreed that the school should once again be the location to the film but everything else needed to be re-thought. The original script was particularly good so we decided to use the same class room setting. This time we wanted to focus on the build up of suspense and taking inspiration from "panic room" had an idea for an extended dolly shot. To give the camera a sense of being undetectable but still part of the action, I thought it would be a good idea for the camera to snake along the ground and go underneath tables and even right past peoples feet. This gave the camera a sense of being an animated object and maybe even a some kind of animalistic character.
At this point it was the end of term and there was only one day when the school was open so we only had one chance. After assigning story boards and the new script and synopsis amongst the group we began production. On the day i wanted to make sure we had a smooth dolly shot, this was because in the short film the camera work was almost to shaky and we wanted to avoid this. We did not have any expensive equipment so jamie brought in his bike and an old scooter he had lying around to try and attach the camera to. However the scooter had small wheels and was too bumpy for our needs. Using 2 belts we successfully attached the camera and tripod to the bike.
When we were outside the bike was a little bumpy but it was still smoother than walking with the camera.
When we were filming one of the main gates was closed which blocked the path we originally wanted to use was blocked so we had to go around.
The camera we used was a digital camera this meant we could upload directly to the mac book however when using the higher quality settings it had limited memory, this meant that twice during filming we had to stop because we had used up all the memory space.

To help us bring the level of our production up we were given professional feedback about what was needed to make our film better. When we first filmed the hallways were empty and this made the setting seem creepy. To make it feel as though the school was once full of life and develop a back story we filmed shots of students as they were walking around the school during break time, a particularly busy time. We had to make sure that the camera followed roughly the same path as the previous dolly shot other wise we wouldn't not be able to fade one over the other.

We took the camera after school to film some scenes. We waited until after school because we needed an empty classroom to film in. However we ran into our first obstacle when we couldn't find a suitable classroom that was unlocked. Part of the professional feedback that we back got was to include random scenes and images to break up the titles. So we decided to try and find things that we could use. However we encountered another problem, it was raining outside when we first filmed so we couldn't film outside.
Eventually we found a classroom and were able to film. As the filming drew to an end we ran out of memory on the SD card. Luckily we were able to delete some unnecessary clips and finish filming.

SCRIPT
Starts with shots of the school in silence then flicks to a classroom.
Teacher: Right guys, its official. You’ve finished your coursework. Well done I’m really proud of you. You can pack away. Have a good holiday.
Class packs away. Talk among themselves. Walk in to the hallway. White figure behind them. No one notices.
Bella: Yes no more media for a whole year.
Jake: How are you guys celebrating?
Bella: Um I’m kinda thinking to go Ambers party.
Jake: Yeah I heard about that. You guys coming yeah?
Luke: Yes obviously. Oi Becca, is James coming?
Everyone: Ooh James.
Teasing Becca.
Becca: Shut up man. Leave me.
Laughs
Samuel: Hey guys wait up
Sam runs behind. Everyone groans.
Samuel: What are you guys doing tonight?
Jake: Um, nothing sorry bye.
Samuel: Well I’ll stick with you guys
Becca: O…k then, hahahaa
Looks at Luke and they start laughing.
Bella: Guys don’t be mean, sorry about them. We might be going to a party. Want to come?
Samuel: Yeah! Sure.
Luke picks up phone pretends to talk.
Luke: What’s that Amber? The parties cancelled? Aw what a shame. Sorry sam.
Everyone walks off quickly.
Jake: Come on Bella!
Bella: Well, see you later Sam. Have a good holiday.
Sam tries to catch up with them and trips dropping his stuff. Everyone laughs Bella looks at him, then carries on walking.
Sam: Don’t worry guys I’m… gets cut off as they turn the corner fine… *sighs**
Starts to pick up his stuff.
Sam: mutters Its okay sam. One day, she’ll come back to me.
Monster: In Bella’s voice. Hey Sam, sorry about them.
Sam: Its oka… turns around. What the fuck…? Who are you…? No… no… AHHHHHHHH.
Flicks to shot of people outside school. They realise they are locked in.
Luke: Oh my days. Lets go get Ms. Flavell. It would be us to get locked in.
